February: Systems of Equations

Dear Parents & Guardians,

March is the perfect time to dive into systems of equations, a key concept in freshman math that helps students develop problem-solving skills they’ll use beyond the classroom. In this unit, students learn how to solve multiple equations at once, discovering where two or more situations intersect—just like finding the best phone plan or comparing travel routes!

How You Can Support at Home:

  • Real-World Connections: Talk with your child about everyday situations where two variables impact a decision. For example, discuss how different grocery store discounts compare or how different streaming services balance price and content.

  • Encourage Problem-Solving: Ask your student how they approach multi-step problems and have them explain their thinking. Let them draw pictures and use numbers to explain their thinking. This helps reinforce their understanding.

  • Use Online Tools: Encourage practice with interactive math websites like Desmos, Khan Academy, or Freckle Math which offer engaging activities on systems of equations.

If your student needs extra support, I am happy to help! Feel free to book a tutoring session or meeting using the appointment link at the top of the homepage. Together, we can build their confidence in math!

Looking forward to a great month of learning,
Ms. Jennifer Zeszutko
