March: Laws of Exponents

Dear Parents & Guardians,

This month, our freshman math students are exploring the laws of exponents, an essential skill that helps them simplify expressions, solve equations, and prepare for more advanced algebra concepts. Understanding how exponents work makes it easier to break down large numbers and see patterns in math, from calculating population growth to understanding scientific notation.

How You Can Support at Home:

  • Practice with Real-Life Examples: Ask your child to explain how doubling (or squaring) something works in everyday life—such as bacteria growth, interest rates, or even video game leveling systems.

  • Encourage Quick Reviews: The more students practice exponent rules (like product, quotient, and power rules), the more natural they become. Try quick daily challenges like "What’s 3² × 3³?". There is additional practice availble in our google classroom.

  • Use Online Tools: Websites like WolframAlpha, Khan Academy, Quizlet, and BrainPop have great interactive activities to reinforce exponent rules.

If your student needs extra support, I’m happy to help! You can schedule a tutoring session or meeting using the booking link on the homepage. Let’s work together to build confidence and success in math!

Looking forward to a great month of learning,
Ms. Jennifer Zeszutko
